- Fold the 8.5 × 11 inch paper in half along the long edge, keeping the longest side the same length (“hot dog style”).
- Unfold the paper, then fold it in half along the short edge, keeping the short edge the same length (“hamburger style”). Do not unfold the paper as you did in the previous step.
- Fold the top corners equally towards the crease in the middle.
- There will be two flaps at the bottom. Fold the one facing you up.
- Flip the shape over horizontally (so the longest edge of the triangle is facing you), then repeat step 4.
- Grab the bottom edges of the paper (along the flaps you just folded) then open it along the crease in the middle until the paper is a diamond shape.
- There will be an opening in the bottom of the diamond. Fold the flap that is closest to you up to the upper corner.
- Flip the paper over horizontally, then repeat step 7.
- Repeat step 6.
- Grab the top edges of the paper and pull it sideways until it is fully expanded. Crease the bottom or expand the sail through the hole in the bottom as necessary.
