Dear Ms. Maryam Alikhani,

I am very pleased to write about myself as a new student of your class. Having English as a second language, things got much harder when I first stepped in the U.S. on 1st June 2017. I left my family, friends, hometown to pursue my dream. After graduating from high school in Bangladesh, at my age of 17, I chose to study in United States. My family has always been supportive and courageous. Their immense support led me see the day of my success- getting accepted at Grove School of Engineering, CCNY.

I was not very scared until I had faced the reality; reality of having trouble in speaking. After coming to this completely new world, I felt like people speak as fast as they walk. I started Spring 2018 as a freshman. I thought it would be hard for me as my English speaking and vocabulary skills were not good. I tried focusing on the lectures and whenever I felt trouble, I went to the tutoring and the writing center. At the end of the semester I have successfully earned 12 credits having an overall GPA of 3.675.

My first semester was hard but fun as well. I realized that sometimes something may seem hard but that is not impossible. The day when I got the chance of becoming a member of The National Society of Collegiate Scholars, I promised myself I won’t give up. I chose Computer Science as my major. I found this subject challenging and has a good job market. My dream is to become a good coder and work as a software engineer in a big company. From my childhood I had boundless interest for Mathematics. I used to participate in Math Olympiad every year. This might be the reason why I was always suggested to major in Engineering. Here I am, working hard and looking forward to becoming a good software engineer in future.

Sincerely,

Sadia S Supti
